    Problem gassing 05 295XL PRO

My first bass boat recently purchased is a 2005 295XL Pro. While I really like most things about the boat one negative I found is gassing it up while on the water. I see some other reports on the Champion Board of similar problems. When filling on the water it's nearly impossible to get gas into the side opening and it's constantly shutting the pump off due to back pressure. I finally got a funnel with a long extension and could get gas into tank at a very slow fill rate. Also, I apparently can only get about 15 gallons into tank before it starts overflow when filling on the water. I'd love to find a fix for this since I'll have the boat on a lift at the lake and be will be filling from lake stations.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I think that whole problem is linked to a collapsed/kinked vent hose. One trick you can do is hold the pump handle upside down. Don't know exactly why that works, but it does. As for the 15 gal, are you sure it's not full? These gas gauges are notorious for not reading right

    Re: Problem gassing 05 295XL PRO (Javelin389)

Thanks for the tip. I did try turning the nozzle upside down with no improvement.

As to the 15 gallons, I ran out of gas and had to come back to the slip on the trolling motor. I added 5 gallons from a can/funnel and headed off to the gas dock. Using the funnel and an extension I was able to get an additional 10 gallons in (very slow add) before gas overflowed from the fill. I took a ride that used 9.9 gallons from the electronic gauge and then back to the gas dock where once again it took almost exactly 10 gallons (using the funnel and extension) before gas came out the fill again.

When I had it on the trailer I was able to put about 24 gallons in it when I first got the boat. It doesn't have a simple fuel level indicator. Instead it has a Faria electronic indicator that I'm still learning to use. Best I can tell you have to start by knowing how much fuel is in the tank to tell how much is left with this device.

I'd really like to figure this out because next time I run out of fuel I might not be in trolling motor range of home!!

If you got the Faria Management system and they didn't give you a book I'd be more than happy to shoot you a copy .

I didn't get any manuals with the boat. I'd sure be pleased to get the Faira manual. Do you have an electronic version?

    Thanks in advance.

I would reccomend you pull the boat out of the water to fill up.
The gas prices should be much cheaper as well.

Ya know with those gauges I have heard tons of negative, but for those that get them working right they love em.

I towed my buds z9 nitro in at a tournament last year when he ran outta gas. Gauges were wayyyyy off..They werent right all season and I am fairly sure he now has smart crafts because no one could get them to work right.

With your tank I am betting its an issue where you are getting a massive amount of air pressure in the tank. Take the advice and see what the breather tube looks like.

I had a nitro that had that issue. The thing would take fuel..and an hour later it would BLOW about a gallon out of the breather tube. Then you could add another 10 gallons.
Once I got the kink out it was all set.

I had a 2002 18XL that was hard to gas on the water. It won't solve all your fueling problems, but I had someone stand on the other side of the boat and it would raise the fueling side up a little.

Did that last week on the lake. Had one of the guys sit in the drivers seat while I filled her up. No back splash and it filled all the way up.
