    Single Vs. dual steering cables

Hello everyone , Noob here with a question on steering types

I recently purchased an 87 18' stratos VT (i believe) and it has a 150 merc with dual cable steering (original I believe). The steering is tight to say the least and I need to repair / replace it. I have noticed when looking for cables, that there are single / double/ NFS / Rotory etc. What is the diffrence in these, and which should my boat have? For the cost factor alone ( $400 for dual , $129 for single) Would going from dual cable to single be a bad idea? I see alot of people here going from dual to hydrolic (cost prohibitive right now). Any info is appreciated. Thanks for helping out a new guy.

Re: Single Vs. dual steering cables (grendle)

Single is ok if you don't go over 50. Dual is needed for yours. I have a rotary, what is nice about it is you can move the motor, like when in the shop, without turning the steering wheel. However I have moved my motor back to the point its a little tight too.
