Ok, I will try the best to provide the details......

Just mounted a 3" SlideMaster jackplate to solve a hole-shot problem. Problem occurred after switching from 27P Shooter to 25P Renegade. Boat is a 1989 Javelin 396 Dual Console w/ 1989 Evinrude 200XP running a 25P Renegade w/o weed ring. There is an 11" step back built into the transom. I also have a very heavy Genesis TM on bow.

For testing, I did not have a partner, so I filled the fuel tank to max (killed the bank account) & filled the front & rear livewell.

Without Jackplate.....6.5" below pad
65mph @ 5.4k rpm
Hole-shot 3k rpm & decent w/o partner
No torque steer
No rooster tail

With Jackplate.....3.75" below pad
62mph @ 5.7k rpm
Hole-shot 3.4k rpm & fast coming over
Real Bad torque steer!!!
Rooster tail way over top of cowl

With Jackplate.....4" below pad
66mph @ 5.6k rpm
Hole-shot 3.2k rpm & decent
Bad torque steer
Rooster tail even w/ top of cowl

With Jackplate.....4.25" below pad
65mph @ 5.6k rpm
Hole-shot 3.2k rpm & decent
Nominal torque steer
Rooster tail even w/ middle of cowl

It never really felt like it was up on the pad after installing the jackplate & testing. Before the jackplate, I could feel it "pop-up". The torque steer was certainly an unexpected side effect!! Even at 4.25" below, it still trys to rip the wheel out of my hand! Trimming it down does not seem to effect this torque. Also, I notice that the rooster tail only worsens when I back off the throttle a little.

Am I not getting enough bow lift to bring it up on the pad?? Do I need to lower it some more to get a better bite?? Or do I now need to have the prop worked?? What constitutes "too much" torque steer?? Should I install a torque tab??
