    1995 Javelin 409 F/S set up help

    1995 Javelin 409 F/S, 6" rite hite JP, 175 Evinrude intruder E175GL, 14 1/2 X 24 Raker (fresh from shop)

The prop is 8" below pad, can turn 6200 RPM's, water pressure was good 2 weeks ago, didn't write it down, only been able to run once this year.
Turning that many RPM's should I even think about raising the motor any or just look for a 26p Raker?

Also while running, plugs were new last year, QL78YC @ .0030. I was killing out/like pulling the cut off switch at WOT. Pulled the cowling and the top left cylinder plug was smacked flush=no gap. Called some locals around the Omaha area, would like to hear opinions here on that. The block and everything up from the lower unit was new in 03, built buy a guy in Guttenberg, Iowa who knows his business.

Could my tach be off? I am not hitting rev limiter? All help/replies appreciated.

if you are at 6200 you are right on the line and the cutting off is the rev limiter cutting in. as for the plug only thing that can do that in the motor is a piston that is loose need to break it down and make sure it is on the shaft tight. also even after replacing a double check is always good.

Re: 1995 Javelin 409 F/S set up help (lkhartwl)

Thx lkhartwl for the reply and advice.
I ran the boat again yesterday, prop was biting better, turned 5900 RPM's, solo, less than 1/4 tank gas, 20-21 psi, not throwing a monster tail, thinking i could lower the motor and see if that keeps my RPM's down while trimmed up at WOT.
It doesn't cut out when i trim it down more in the water and open it up, keeps the RPM's down

cutting out more mid range than top end, i back it off b/4 it goes over 6000.
pulled the plugs, gapped remained good, had some plugs on both sides that had oil on them like they weren't burning hot enough to fire 100%. The motor is acting like it wants to run, but is bogging down

got home and drained 11 gallons of gas, pulled the fuel filter out which had "some" sediment in it, didn't look to be enough to cut me out that much, will replace that and fresh gas. I have a can of decarb/carb cleaner that came with my new motor kit in 03, I will put older plugs in it, hit the 6 carbs and then put the new plugs in it and see what that does as well.

wondering if i should check/replace the coils or power packs. i will gas it up and might get to run on Wed. and see what happens.

    thx guys

i put on a new powerpack last night, ran it afterwards, problem solved.

how low is too low prop to pad. i am now at 8 3/4" below pad and can still turn a 14 1/2 X 24 p raker @6100 rpms trimmed, WOT. i have good lift on the bow, still too high of a rooster @ 6-8', if i trim down a little the bow goes down and so does speed, i don't think i am over trimming. should i lower the JP another 1/4" or look for a bigger Raker?

    thx

Jason how are you measuring your prop to pad measurement? You should place a 6' level on the lowest part of the hull in the back. I know that on mine I have an area that is a little higher then the true bottom of the hull. That is where the inlets are for the livewells etc. You need to level the boat out from the lowest point on the pad, then level out the motor from the cavitation plate. Then holding the 6' level on the pad measure from the top of the level to the center of the prop shaft.

If you are doing that and it still measures 8" then you must be running a 25" mid section and your prop is way to small if you are turning 6000 rpm's.

I measured like Buzzb8's post. Leveled boat, concrete pad. 16" from under drain plug to concrete, leveled motor and then cement to center of prop for 8". 8"
