Yes that is true...why i dont know cause skeeter claims to have the strongest transom in the industry but then that may just be for the upper models with the aluminum bracing....i have the same boat and put one on, 6 years later all is fine...i IM'd a dealer on here before about that and never heard back....so who knows....skeeter or the dealer will tell you that it will not improve the performance but that is not true cause it helped mine and also picked up a few MPH's...

I put a plate on my boat 3 years after buying it new. That supposedly voided the 10 year warranty, but it has now been 8+ years with no issues, other than better handling and a lil more speed. The dealer said that my boat (SX166) wasnt designed for a jackplate..whatever!
