Need Set up advice on new to me TZX 200

I am purchasing a 2005 TZX 200 with a 200 HPDI next week and just thought I'd check with the Skeeter guys on good set ups. Whats the normal starting point for set up for prop shaft below pad? I drove it today and since he didnt have a GPS (which I am fixing) I dont know what speed we got out of it though it sure seemed fast, but hes got a Power Tech 25P 3 blade on it and I only got it to 5200 RPMs, it felt like the motor was too low on the pad, but it ran strong as hell.Should I start it at 3.5" or higher?

Re: Need Set up advice on new to me TZX 200 (TexasCub)

I have the same boat, motor and prop.
Not sure of height below pad, but I have my jackplate set with the motor section about an inch above the transom section. I'm sure it's not the ideal location but I have been to 68.6 mph. That worked for me so I haven't messed with it.

    ON my 08 zx200, I'm at 1 3/4" below pad. I'm getting 69 in cool water @ 6000 rpm.

Split the plates the width of a dollar bill with a 25T1 and you will see 70....? that measures arounf 2 3/8" split on the plates if that helps..PSI will be fine trust me

Not sure what you guys mean when you say a dollar bill width, this is the current set up, does it look low or high in relation to your advice.

    Re: (TexasCub)

to low the split in theplates needs to be the width of a dollar bill or around 2 3/8" and you will be set...

Re: Need Set up advice on new to me TZX 200 (TexasCub)

I agree - I've got an '05 TZX with the same set-up. I have the plate set up about 2 inches (not quite a dollar bill - but I max out rpm's and get very close to 70 mph.

Sounds like I need to raise mine a little then.

I have been running with about an 1"-1 1/2" between plates.
getting 67 MPH with my heavy load on a worked 25P T-1

Getting everything out of the shop again next week from a little incident on the HWY so I will get a chance at a fresh set up.

I am fixing to put a 25 T1 on tomorrow, is this measurement of a dollar bill between the plates an optimum set up for a heavy tourney load or is this just for the fastest top end speed with a light load? I raised the jack plate another 1/2" from the pic above and even with the powerTech thats on there I still had 30psi H20 pressure at WOT, so I am certain it can ride quite a bit higher and still maintain adequate water pressure. I am not looking for the fastest speed imaginable for this boat but rather a great all around performing set up when the boat has full fuel, full livewells and half of Bass Pro Shops in the storage compartments!

yes it will carry just find at that height. i used to run a worked 25T1 and 26TXP above the pad with a hydraulic on the same boat @ 72.1

OK I am going to have to look over my set up again.

Got the boat back from the shop, and set the jackplate back to where it was prior to the wreck.

Now I am maxing out on RPM's and only getting 62 on the GPS.

I am going to talk to the guy that reworked the prop to see what he did, or what he might be able to do.

Does a new boat from the factory come with the optimum setup?

It comes with the safest and most consistent setup for all over. But depending on load and elevation you can adjust to make it run better

I would think that Jackplate setting is part of the rigging prep task that the dealer is responsible for. Depending on the prop they put on they should adjust the jackplate setting accordingly. We all know some dealers do more than others so that setting from new could be questionable.

    Re: (CStewart)

yes they dont care about speed when they rig it all the plates are set that way. your RPM's with a HPDI need to be 5600 min and 5800 better. if your turning that and running 62 your prop is the culprit. these boats are easy to set and forget so dont let them baffle you. Stock 25T1 and the the split in the 2 plates @ a dollar bill width or 2 3/8". you shoud also be able to put 2 fingers in the slide slot.

this is for a 200 HPDI 3.3L Big Block Motor Only.....
