How to drain Skeeter gas tank

Getting ready for winter and after all the talk about ethonal issues and outboards I decided to drain the tanks on my Skeeter.I have a 1996 SX190 with a Merc 200 EFI.Curious as to the easiest way to drain the gas from the tanks, I don't want to remove them as this looks like a real pain.

    Thanks , T

I just used a syphon kit with a long hose and then drained the gas to cans. I had to remove the 89 gas as i now need to run 91.

Re: How to drain Skeeter gas tank (SkeeterJohn)

That's what I tried before I posted this. I couldn't get the tube all the way in the tanks ? Maybe not rigid enough tubing or my Skeeter has an obstruction on both tanks to prevent this ? Is the higher octane gas supposed to alleviate problems with ethonal ?

Pull the fill line off the tank. Should be able to put hose in there

My tube was about 3ft long and went in but removing the filling hose clamp would also work.

No i am only running 91 because i have high performance heads on my motor it isn't stock. Running 91 in a stock engine does nothing for ethanol. To treat ethanol use startron or marine stabil.

take hose off motor...attach hose to it down to ground. put end in gas can. squeeze primer bulb till it flows good. should siphon from there

Re: How to drain Skeeter gas tank (11tonytiger)

I left a gas cover open one time got water in there, had to drain all the gas out, I took the metal cover off the top of the tank inside the boat it has a few little screws on it, was easier to access and drain.
also looked in the tanks and saw crud in there so I wiped them all out and started new.
    good luck either way.

You're boat is a little different than mine but they use the same tanks etc, you can't miss it, it is where the the level gauge and the gas come out of it.
Let me know if you need more help.
    You're welcome, good luck

Like bottledgts posting, I disconnected the fuel line from the engine and ran it into gerry cans. Filled my truck up a few times till the tanks were totally drained. Will now only run 91 octane with stabilizer.

Re: How to drain Skeeter gas tank (islander)

Sounds way too easy to do it that way!

Wished I would have thought about it before I pulled the hoses off the tanks to get the siphon in there.

Will damn sure do it like that next time

If you run Yamaha Ringfree do not put gas in your car or truck, it will plug your converter up.
