    Single axle vs Dual axle

I currently have a 2004 TZX 200 that I am the original owner of. My EZ loader trailer (single axle) is showing signs of wear and tear and I was thinking of purchasing a new dual axle trailer. When I put my boat in the garage I have to turn it a little probably 3 feet to fit with room to walk around. My questions are, is it worth getting a dual axle? I have read post before that say they tow smoother and for the safety reasons of having 4 tires instead of 2. Also I know some people get the jacks to spin or turn the boat and some have said you can turn a dual axle without the jacks, so could I put cardboard under the wheels to help with pushing the boat over the 3 feet that I need? I figured the cardboard would spin on the concrete and make it easier I really don't want to buy jacks?

Also anyone have any ideas on price of a new trailer? I have sent 2 e-mails to dealers close to me and of no surprise have not heard back from either. Thanks in advance.

Pros and conns to both, never a perfect trailer. Tandem is better while rolling down the highway for sure, but the downside to the tandem is when not on the road trying to move it around, more maint, more $$ to keep it up. Single not as good on the road, less, maint, and less $ to keep up. but in your situation the ability to move it around is definitely something to think about. I don't think the cardboard is gonna make it any easier. You might want to check into a breakaway tongue as an option, other than that go-jacks are the way to go.... .

Myself personally I prefer a tandem over a single on a boat 20' and above, but like mentioned before there is double the cost of mainteance, but in turn if you have a problem with a bearing or a tire on the highway you can remove the wheel and keep on trucking and they do tow a whole lot better a tandem does not beat your boat to death going down the road like a single

I have a tandem with a 18 1/2' skeeter on it. It trailers great and doesnt have so much bouncing like a single. I do put mine in the garage with the car so i push and pull everytime it take it out and put it in. When doing that i have to angle it so it doesnt hit the side but i can be a bitch when pulling it to the side to straighten it out. I'm not pushing n pulling every weekend either. But if had the choice i would go with another tandem.

I'd say tandem, I had a tire separate on me going 75 mph could have got ugly with a single axle

I have a tandem trailer and put it in my garage from corner to corner even with the breakaway tongue it only clears by about a foot. As for doing it by hand there is no way or not by yourself atleast, but I have got good at parking it in there with the truck. I put some marks on the floor to help me guide it in. The cardboard thing mite help, I can tell a big diff. if the tires are wet when turning it in the garage. Love the way it pulls.

Re: Single axle vs Dual axle (TomG)

Dan... I've always had a single axle trailer on 4 differenet boats... I now have a ZX225 on a tandem axle trailer and it is awesome.... I would recommend the removable tounge .... I also live in a cul-de-sac and was worried about being able to jack knife it into the driveway but it does great!!!!! Definately trailers better.. but like everyone said have to buy 4 tires instead of two but I love mine!!!! Hope that helps...

Which jacks are you guys talking about? I have been working on the garage to put the boat in and I am about ready. It is 27ft by 18 ft inside. So the boat has to be put in sideways. It would be nice if you could lift the rear wheels when you arrive home and back it in and move it around.

The Jacks your talking about are the ones that you see on wreckers that you hug the wheel and jack it up? Also looking to build an electric dolly to move it around.

Maybe they should put air bags instead of the torqe springs. Then you could let air out to lift the tire and add to put it back down.
