    Any Difference

Looking at a new 21 i. w/ 250 Hpdi or a 300 Hpdi, with both boats having the same set up and loads, which motor would give the better performance ? ie : hole shot, top end speed and is the cost between the two motors worth the extra money ?

Well I am sure the 300 will give better overall speed and performance, not too sure about the price difference. I seem to remember about $2000k difference. I Would expect you would see about 4 mph extra in top end. Only concern would be if some of the tournaments you fish in has 250 hp max restrictions....

You'll never be upset having the max rated horsepower motor for your boat. Can't say the same if you choose to equip with less than max power. I learned my lesson the hard way a couple times before I got it right. Go with the 300.

One option is to get the 250, do a hydrotech phase III on it and get your 370 that way.... I have the ZX 250 and often wish I would have just done the 300 for fun. But I am more of a recreational fisherman and seldom do tournaments.

I think the speed difference is only 2-3 mph, the 300 is not a very strong motor. There are a lot of 21i's out there with 250's so I don't think that would hurt resale (the 300's may be worse as it would rule out tournament fishermen on resale).

I have run both and yes the 300 is faster 3-4 MPH, but it also burns more fuel. I have a 08 21 I with a 250 that is a demo with about 30 hours on it, it is one our website. I have run it with a tourny load at 72 MPH.

Used the 300 boats seem to be cheaper. I cant see the proce and restriction differences along with the extra gas for that motor. A few mods and or an optimum set up I think you can get 77 out of a 20I no problem and a 250. I have a friend with a pic of his GPS at 79.9 with a series one hpdi 250 on his 20I. Happened at the Fork owners tournament.
