Torque steering with sea star hydraulic.

I have a new 07 SL190 with a F150 Yammy with hydraulic steering. I have a problem with torque steering. It will not turn the steering wheel on its own but makes it very difficult to turn the boat to the left under way. I have tried to adjust the anode right above the prop but this causes the top end speed to be lower, the boat doesn't track on a straight line anymore, and torque steering is only reduced rather than eliminated. Is this normal and is there anybody that has any suggestions?

What prop are you running, and is the torque at a specific rpm or speed?

I recommend setting the torque tab straight and raising the engine another mounting hole or two.

I have always had a somewhat similar experience with Hydraulic steering. The past 2 boats (Sprint and Skeeter) had excessive torque when trimmed too high. The torque would not feedback to the steering wheel but you just couldn't turn very easily to the left when the boat was trimmed high.
One thing that I've found is that the torque goes away if you momentarily let off of the gas. This will allow you to make a left turn without fighting the torque and the boat only slows down a bit and doesn't fall off plane. Turn the wheel to the left as needed and then hit the throttle again.

Using a Stainless 21M Yamaha prop. Adjusting the trim does effect the amount of torque on the steering wheel but doesn't get rid of it completely. The torque is not at a specific rpm or speed.

The 21M is a good prop for your application. At wide open throttle (WOT), what is the rpm?

If memory serves me correctly, you should be able to raise the engine up two mounting holes. Can you verify this?

I don't remember what my WOT was. I'm not sure on the raising of the engine right now. I'll have to wait till I get it out of storage in the spring.
