    Evinrude Dual cable steering question

I'm looking at an 87' ranger with an older evinrude motor, the owner just put the motor on the boat but only hooked up one of the cables as he did not have the other piece needed to hook up the second cable so its single cable steer right now with the cable thru the tilt pin.
    Two questions

    1) What part is needed to hook up the second cable, I'm new to boats so I'm utterly clueless as to what I need to make the second work.

    2) Do I have to take the outboard off of the boat in order to connect the other cable to the assembly?

I've looked around, and only seen an assembly for a 91' or newer evinrude, so any help appreciated.

The specialists here really need the engine model number. These people can give a very educated guess on the part but they can be specific if you give the model number of the engine.
Look on the bracket that the engine hangs on the transom with.

T&R Marine makes a lot of different kits to adapt dual cable.

They have a website, dont know the URL offhand.

Re: Evinrude Dual cable steering question (glfgd82)

Evinrude offers dual cable steering kits for various year model and HP engines.

Dealers have an accessory catalog that gives application information.

The model number of the engine is necessary in order to determine what kit is needed.

Call an Evinrude dealer with the M/N of the engine and he will give you correct info for your application.

There are a number of dealers that support this forum as sponsors.
Contact one of them for answers to your specific application questions.
