Possible reason for my poor hole shot?

I took my boat to Top Gun in Nixa and didn’t get great news. The seals in the lower unit are bad; he said I had more water in the lower unit than oil, and a bent prop shaft among some normal maintenance stuff. The bad news was that I have low compression, 104-107 on left bank and 107-109 on right bank. Would the low compression be one of the reasons I have a slow hole shot? Does anyone know if the 92 mercury 2.5L has sleeved cylinders? I plan to run it the rest of the year and do a ring job this winter and want to know what I’m getting into.

I almost forgot the worst part of this, I dont think im going to be able to talk the wife into a wrap and new carpet now after this bill, new minn kota 101lb 36v TM, bank charger and batteries.

Re: Possible reason for my poor hole shot? (trashy)

    1. Elevation is 1296 ft. 2. With 2 guys and full live wells and half tank of gass it was a 50/50 chance it would plane, 26p preditor 4 blade prop, 6" setback and 3 1/4 prop height. Rpm guage is replaced, new water pump and will have gps on boat next outing for the rest of the info. I was wondering if the compresion was going to be an issue as well.

Why loose the oil injection and spark advance? Im new to performance boats.

i agree with trashy...but i will say this...i think your holeshot problem is in your prop, or set up.... and did you see the test??????? i never break the case on a motor untill i have too...now if you have money to burn....tear it down..that motor has steel sleeves, and can be bored to about 30 over..and just new rings may not solve any of your problems...you are probably looking at 6 new pistons, and rings...a bore job, plus labor...but i would have to see the numbers if it was me....i trust my own eyes...and a select few people....

So the 2 of you dont seem to think those compression numbers are an issue? That would be great if thats the case.

It is such a pleasure to have people like LD and Trashy giving so much of their knowledge and experience. I really appreciate all that add so much to a site like this. I don't have this boat or motor, but general knowledge like this is so valuable. Thanks for sharing.

Personally I would try a dual pvs bravo1 in the correct pitch.

i knew that bravo was going to creep its way in here again...
the 25 tempest has been the prop to run on the 206, and 209 models with a 225...if thats your hp..i didnt ever see it mentioned...but it wouldnt hurt to try a bravo...i guess...

Thanks for all the great Info, I just got my boat back this weekend and need to get it water ready and start testing. I have finals all week so it might be a week or two but I will keep you posted on the progress.
