    water in lower end

Hi all. I recently changed the lower end oil on my Evinrude 175 intruder(1991) and water(about an ounce) came out first. The oil that came out after was normal looking. I know a seal is gone, question is what is usually done when this happens. If the lower end is looked at and the gears look good, can I just reseal it and everything will be fine? A local dealer quoted me $500 plus parts, is this reasonable? Thanks in advance,

    Max

Re: water in lower end (maxe)

probably for cal that is a regular price since everything is hi priced out there. here a new reseal usually costs maybe 100 plus seals and oil. it also depends on who you go to , try other dealers, also if you are mechanically inclined you can do it your self with the johnson manual not a clymers manual. you may have only 1 seal that is bad check for fishing line around the prop shaft that is usually the one.

A pressure/vacuum check of the LU will tell you which seal is bad.
