    WOT problem

I have a 92 Johnson 175 Faststrike on a 19' Cajun(62.5 GPS). Motor runs fine except for the last bit of throttle. When pushed all the way, carburters open all the way(throttle plates horizontal), the motor seems to be flat but if I pull the throttle back a little bit, it picks up speed. Could the total advance on the timing be the problem?

Are you sure the throttle plates are horizontal and not going over center?

Remove the air box, move the throttle to wide open, Motor Off, and look at the plates.

Try this....run the boat....when the motor slows...Hit the choke and count how long it takes to make a difference...It will either speed up or slow down in about 3 seconds....if it speeds up you may have a carb that has a float level off, if it slows down then you dont have a fuel system problem.

Let us know what you find.

    Re: WOT problem (RUSTY63)

Finally made it out to the lake and it wasn't blowing like a hurricane. Ran it wide open and it got to the point where it goes flat and pushed the enrichment button and it slowed down. Checked the throttle plates when the shift lever is pushed all the way forward, they are straight(vertical). Any ideas?

If the primer made the motor slow down that leads me to think there may be a ignition problem, this will take some testing that needs to be done by a dealer.

I kind of figured this is where it would go. Could this be part of the synchronization set-up between the carbs and ignition? Thanks Rusty for your help.

I dont think so, sounds more like a EET, pack, or stator problem.

    Re: WOT problem (RUSTY63)

The stator was replaced about 2 years ago by the previous owner. The mechanic said it went out due to a loose + battery connection. Since I have had the boat, Iv'e made it a point to keep all battery connections tight. Oh well it's off to the shop to get it checked out. Need it ready for the Texas Rally II at Big Sam!!!!
