    FICHT wont accelerate

2000 ficht 200hp, E200fplssc 04789234. On 2000 Triton tr20. After a 10 minuter run the rpms droped as i was about to set it down, it continued to idle but there was very little response as I tried to accelerate. The remainder of the day I could start it and it would idle fine. There are no codes stored. I performed a resistance check on the TPS and it checked out. Oh! and the fuel bulb was hard when I checked it on the lake. Any thoughts as to what to check next or clue as to what it migh be causing this problem. thanks

    Re: FICHT wont accelerate (Danrude)

Sure sounds like a TPS issue. If the TPS is disconnected from the EMM it defaults to idle speed because it has no TPS input (doesn't know to accelerate). Since you said it has no stored codes, does that mean you have a laptop and the diagnostic software? If you do, hook it up and go to the monitoring screen and move the throttle from idle to wot. You should see a TPS voltage approx. .4 to .5V at idle and approx. 4.75 at WOT. The TPS percentage should go from 0% @ idle to 95+ @ WOT.

There are four tests that must be performed on a TPS to determine if it is good or bad. In addition, the TPS could check fine @ the TPS however the signal may not be reaching the EMM (brain). It is more complete to remove the connector from the EMM and test the TPS through the wiring harness.

If you don't have the diagnostic tools to do the above, take it to a good J/E tech. He should have you on your way in a very short time.

    Re: FICHT wont accelerate (Sportwin)

I did check the TPS through the harness. I do have the software and the manual. I will check it as you suggest. It does appear to me to be a TPS issue. Thanks for your input.

Sportswin, I ran the test on the laptop and the results were .3v to 1.68v. and 0% to 56% So it looks like it is the TPS. Is there any thing further I need to do to confirmit my diagnosis. Thanks I really appreciate the feedback.

You can make sure that the throttle linkage is not binding or restricted and that the control unit/hot foot is moving the throttle linkage completely through the range. Try removing the throttle cable with the diagnostics hooked up and move the throttle linkage by hand from idle to wot. See if the throttle position percentage and voltage go higher when you operate it manually. Your engine linkage has physical stops so that the linkage can only travel so far forward or back. It's possible that the stopping device on the linkages forward movement has backed out and is stopping the linkage from advancing all the way. Check that out and let me know what you find.

Sportwin, that is the way I did it, I disconnected the linkage and did it by hand. I had already checked and confirmed that everything was traveling as it should.
    Thanks.

A big thank you to Sportwin. Replaced the TPS and all is well.
