    Need some advice

At a tourney sun. I lost my lower unit. When I got home I tore in to it and found the pinion gear shattered and a bearing out. After seeing the prices for those two parts it seems I can get a new sei aftermarket lower for near that price. My question is they sell one with a low water pickups for a little more. Would my cobra w/225efi benefit from this?

I would say no unless you are running about 1" or less below pad which I doubt you are in a Cobra.

Have to agree with Dwayne. The nose cone will give you a performance leading edge on your lower unit which will reducing some drag but I wouldn't really worry to much about drag because I wouldn't classify Cobra's as "go fast" boats anyway (not a slug but certainly not go fast like Allisons, Bullets, Strokers, etc.). The major reason for low water pick-ups is to upgrade the cooling. Has your engine been running hot (or hotter) at WOT? Low water pick-ups will give you an increased water pressure thereby cooling your engine better. They also have a performance advantage, allowing you to trim the motor higher while still maintaining water pressure and proper cooling, but as indictated Cobra's aren't really "go fast" boats and seem to run their best between 2.5" and 3.5" below the pad and not real high where low water pick-ups would definitely be needed. JMO.

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!
