I installed one on my boat and the only thing you will be dealing with is some foam. Don't get nervous when you cut your outline out and the deck doesn't come up. The foam will be attached to the deck as well so you may have to do a little prying to get the cut piece out. Then all you have to do is dig in the foam till the Procontroll fits.

David...Installation of a recessed trolling motor pedal is a piece of cake. Measure twice, cut once! There is nothing in the way under the front casting deck. If you wanna be sure for yourself, pull the front bow panel and get a mirror to look inside. First, lay out the template and make sure it's straight. 2. Trace around the template. 3. Drill holes in each of the four corners of the template. Insert your cutting blade in one of the holes and start cutting along the line of the template. (Here's a good tip...before you start cutting with your sabre saw use a box cutter type tool and go over and over and over the the outline of your template. This will cut the carpet fibers and prevent the cutting blade from fouling). Also, if you use a sabre saw have plenty of new blades on hand, the fiberglass is mighty tough on 'em. 4. After you remove the piece that was cut out you will need to make a hole for the foot pedal drain tube. But first, cut away enough of the foam floation so your foot pedal tray will fit down in the hole properly. As for the drain tube, this tube runs down to the bottom of the keel and any water collected around the foot pedal will drain down to the keel area and then all the way back to the bilge area. I used an old target arrow with a field tip on it to penetrate the foam under the deck. 5. Seal the wood under the fiberglass (where you just cut out) with a good primer. 6. Put a silicone bead around the hole that you just cut out so as to seal the foot pedal when you screw it down to the deck. Be sure to use a good quality silicone. 7. Screw the foot pedal to the deck. 8. Paint the screw heads black to match the recessed tray (if necessary). and finally 9. Stand back, admire your work and then GO FISH!

Also, here's a few pics from someone else who did this installation:

    David,
If you haven't put yours in yet, I found that a wire brush on your drill with the nozzle from a shop vac really keeps the foam mess down and give you a smoother result. Can be QUITE a mess!!!!

Hope it went well anyway. I forgot to say to TAPE the shop vac nozzle to your drill.
Once you get it done, you'll be glad you have. No more standing like Captain Morgan all day.

It took me about 30 min. to install and about 1 hr. to clean up the mess. Havn't got to go fishin with it yet though.
