dual prop seal installation

i took them out, but forgot how they were installed. HELP. when installing two seals on the prop shaft, which way are they installed?

my manual says to use wd 40 for installation, but it looks like sealer on the ones i took out. sealer makes the most sense, but i am not sure. sealer or wd40?

Lips on the seals facing away from each other,(inside seal lip in, outside seal lip out) we use BRP Gasket Sealing compound.

You must have a '96 thru '98 manual as back then the propshaft seal was a one piece rubber coated dual lipped seal. Things change over the years so a service manual becomes out of date soon after it is published.

They went back to the 2 individual seals, installed back to back and sealed with Gasket Sealer which is also known as Perfect Seal #4.

and yes it is a 98. the manual is a Clymer manual. it is actually pretty good. could use a few more pics, but what manual couldn't?
