hey all, i noticed that on my 97 202 that the rub rail has come away from the hull in one spot on the port side at about the passenger seat. its loose for about 2 feet (i can pull and push it in and out about 3/8") please tell me this isnt a major issue....it seems that i could pull the rope rub rail out and maybe add some stainless or aluminum rivets or screws of some kind, then put the rope back in??
Yep - not a major issue at all and you are correct about pulling the rope insert out - Proceed as follows and it will be better than new...
Remove the back corner metal or plastic rub rail pieces (3-4 screws) & You can then pull the inner rubber rub rail (bumper) out exposing the problem areas where the screws or rivets are...
Correct (or replace) with larger stainless screws + 3M 5200 in each hole & then inch by inch snap the rub rail back in all the way back to the rear corners & replace the corner pieces (use some good marine silcone around any/all bottom open areas).
Basically the rub rail (itself) is an insert held in place by the rub rail track. You may have to to use a small screw driver to snap the rub rail back into the track inch by inch.
