OIL PUMP TO FIX OR NOT TO FIX

I HAVE A 40HP JOHNSON VRO. THE OIL PUMP IS OUT. MY QUESTION IS IS IT BETTER TO PUT IN A NEW ONE OR JUST MIX THE OIL AND GAS IN THE TANK.
IF I MIX THE OIL AND GAS WHAT IS 50/1 OR WHAT.
IF I FIX IT HOW HARD IS IT TO FIX. THE MOD# IS J40ELCUD.
ALSO CHANGED THE LOWER UNIT OIL TODAY AND HAD LOTS OF WATER IN IT WHAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM.
    THANKS FOR THE INFO.

I would say fix it. Not sure of the cost or how but I would rather fix it then mix in a tank. I used to do that with my dad's old 75hp TNT Johnson and I hated it. Messy and if you put too much in by accident say good bye to the skeeters.

I would wait for the gurus here, If I remember correctly, some 40 hp motors had trouble with the oil pumps and mixing is recommended. Don't quote me here, just let the gurus get you the correct info. BTW Post the model # to help the guys.

Hmm an old one 1987 change the VRO if you want or get a Fuel pump only and premix if you feel safer Your choice.

Lu problems, pull the carrier and replace the seals, or pull the foot and have it pressure tested and re-sealed.

Look at the prop, and pull it off. The prop shaft rides on that carrier inside the lower unit. It has seals on it that need to be replace from time to time. Not to be a smart A$$ but time for you to see a dealer.
