I watched the recorded segment this AM. It almost completely stunk. Not a whole lot of on the water fishing coverage. Zona was acting like an Ike wanna be.

Yeah whats up with that....They must have the cameras in the wrong boats or something...You would think w/ pretty boy Velvick and a helicopter out on the water they could get something

    Re: The Classic coverage (Luke)

Seems like there was more armchair coverage from the desk of the trio than on the water though. Yeah we know how many boats there is to cover, but constant desk commenting, with commercial after commercial? There were only two in the commenter's that had a grasp, the guy that didn't make the classic and the older gent at the desk with Zona. The rest were . Zona appears to be a nice guy, I also like sundaes too, but not all the time. I don't need humoring all the time. I need Bass fishing, nuts and bolts, how to, how was it done, etc.

    Re: The Classic coverage (HaulinBass)

HaulinBass, that pretty much sums it up. I'm thinking maybe I'll make a bass fishin dvd. No sponsors, commercials, etc. Just plain fishing... now to find some fish !!! I can cuss with the best of em, fall all over the boat, jump up and down and throw stuff, and act like a little spoiled kid. Well, I'm half way there. Now that catching fish part, hmmmmmmm. I do know a guy with a big pond that's stocked. If I can get my boat in there somehow, you will be entertained beyond belief with bass fishing magic. Now where's my camera ???

I have to agree, it pretty much stunk. Maybe tomorrow will be better. I would much rather watch FLW outdoors and just stay away from ESPN.....

    Re: The Classic coverage (Luke)

They have a ton of resources..I just didn't care for the production..I'm with Haulin'!Way to much B.S. and not enough fishing...I did like the Davey Hite segment though...Most of the behing the desk stuff is fluff and filler...Coach basketball leave the fishing to the Pros...See what happened to Swindle, Horton, and Ducket..I respect Coach Knight but gimme a break if that isn't BS filler I don't know what is...I record on DVR so ff those comercials..OK i'm done..And yes I'll be watching tomarow

    Re: The Classic coverage (sker13)

    Can't please everyone.

I think it's funny, the last two years everyone seemed to be complaining about the live coverage. It's not a live TV sport. I was at the Pittsburgh Classic in 2005, and the weigh in dragged on and on due to the live TV coverage. On TNN you got coverage about 3 months after the fact. I think same day is as good as it can be.

At Pittsburgh, ESPN had a number of boats running tapes to the production center, people running around trying to cover everything. It must have cost a fortune. I don't see how they can do it live and make money, and making money is why they are doing it. Yes, I can live without the Coach Knight segments, and allthough lots of people think Zona's a hoot, he does get to be too much.

It's cool to see them live on the H20 , Skeet's boat runs around the 71-72 mark.

Thing is, if they can cover the heart attack sport of golf live, but can't do the logistics of Bass fishing live? If they can't report live, what about Sports updates, news flash at the bottom of ESPN screen? I must be asking too much.

    Re: The Classic coverage (HaulinBass)

No Larry, not asking to much. I read somewhere not to long ago that there are more people with fishing license's than a drivers license in the U.S. I really doubt there is a golf cart in more garages than boats !!! I'm certainly not saying I could do a better job than they do but it sure seems like B.A.S.S. has gone down hill and lost the brakes. I gave up on them years ago. Yeah, I know, it's a business and they are in it to make money. The problem seems to be overwhelmingly clear as stated by so many people not just on this thread but others. The entertainment factor (catching fish) (showing pro's catching fish) is just about gone. To much hype and not enough show. Just my humble opinion. . .

    Re: The Classic coverage (champit)

I have also been very disappointed with the coverage. I want to see some fishing, not Zona he gets on my nerves. I would prefer to see the weigh in live, then maybe the following Saturday have a show showing the guys actually fishing.

Has the Purolator commercial with Swindle in it gotten old to anybody besides me?

    Re: The Classic coverage (bigdog)

Guys I have never been a big ESPN supporter but I think they did very well this year, with the online live action and the nightly show I think it is about the best we can ask for. Unlike golf these guys dont follow a true course where they all come down the same line everytime these guys are fishing on over a 50k acre lake how are they suppoed to do live coverage??? IT also drags out for 8-9 hours do you really want to watch the times where they are not catching anything?? Also do you think the pros want to show on TV what they are catching the fish on??? They are fishing the classic everything is keep under wraps! Keep in mind the FLW championship is seen 2 weeks after the event!

    Re: The Classic coverage (JeremyL)

After day 1, how many sexy shad #5 were sold? Do the BASS HQ have an ESPN black out for the contestants? I have to admit, after Day 1, the coverage was a little better. Seemed like the bass were scattered. Everyone had their own pattern. To bad the boy from OH didn't take it. I like the underdogs, he probably should've went deeper. But, if the beagle hadn't stopped to take a dump he'd caught the rabbit too.

    Re: The Classic coverage (55excl)

No one else said it, but I will. Over all I liked it, but quit sticking to the same people. Good example, no first day coverage of the day 1 leader. That guy probably didn't have a camera within a mile of him on Friday. Why? Do they think only the guys that have won before are going to win this one. So many of them had their careers kicked off by winning their first tournament at the classic. Just spread the love a little and I will be alright with it.

Well I hate to say it but plenty, even though he was not throwing a strike king the last day when fishing shallow, it was still painted in sexy shad but it was a custom made crank!
