Adding speakers to my boat...and cutting into the glass @#$!

I know this will not be real popular with many of you, but I gotta tweak the sound in my boat because my wife likes to come out now that she digs the rig, you know... (she loves the fishunter 190!). Anyway, the speakers are down by my feet and the passenger's feet (way under each cockpit...facing toward the back of the boat). With them there, she can't hear them on the front deck unless we crank it, and then my kid and I can't hear ourselves think in the back of the boat. I was thinking of putting some 6x8's or 9's on the insides of the front rails of the boat up by the front deck. Or, I was toying with the idea of putting speakers on the front side of each console (so if you were standing at the front of the boat looking back, there would be a speaker somewhere below each windshield. I get a little nervous about cutting that big of a hole in the fiberglass... I don't know if it's a big deal or not, but thought I read somewhere that "drilling" holes tooks some care. Any thoughts from those of you who are more smarterer than I are?

Instead of cutting and mounting speakers, why not get small bookshelf speakers, and Velcro them to the deck. that way you can store them when you don't use them and wont add holes to the boat.
    Something like these.

ahh.... id just cut the transom clear out, wait wrong topic. LOL! no seriously do you have rodlockers? why not wire them up to be removable from your locker? just have to leave a lil wire to get them out of there and set them on the floor or deck. and make up some straps to secure them while in storage. no holes that way.

I do think that looks like a good spot for one speaker... Not sure if I'll do another somewhere. I also think the idea of having them be some what removeable sounds good too. I have a few things I add everytime she comes out with us during the day (ladder, lounger type chair, and now maybe speakers). I do plan to keep this rig for some time, so maybe the big ol' hole isn't such a bad idea. I also worry about little bit about having that radio/cd player drain my starting battery.

I run my radio of my trolling batteries. Unless you are fishing really strong current you can run them both all day with no problem. What kind of speakers are you using in the boat? I have mine mounted under the consoles and can hear them just fine from the front.

I'm not sure what kind they are. I will have to look again. I wonder if we'll be able to hear them in the front better if we're not running the kicker...

Derwood I put tunes in my Champ and for speakers I put in 6x9's. What I did is run my wire up both sides of the boat and I got some of the wedge style speaker cabinets, they sell tyhem at wal- mart, and let them seat on the floor facing me and my wife. I can move them to the front or back as need and if I am fishing in the rain I can take them out and leave them at home. You can run down the lake at wide open and hear them just fine. Worked for me just an idea you might like. Abe1

Good question I'm looking to add speakers to my new boat also. I think I will put mine on the outer side of each consol...
