2oo4 ho direct inj cutting off when shifting from forward to reverse. It usually happens when it cross`s the neutral switch. Is there a fix for that and what would it be to fix that. Please reply. PS It does this cutting off only when cold or just staring engine to get off in water. I have changed the plugs and fuel filter.
I'd check the shift interrupter switch. Located at the bottom of the shift linkage on the motor.
What would you check for on the swicth.
If it is operating properly, check with a meter on ohms scale to see if it opening and closing when the plunger is depressed, It feeds a signal to the EMM. Cold weather may effect it.
Could you post the model and serial number please.
How many hours are on it and what plugs are you running?
Rusty, my 2005 225 HO DI does the same thing when it's cold shifting from forward or reverse to neutral.
Aprox 200 hrs. running QC12PEP .028 gap

I was told the problem with mine was in the linkage itself and that it needed adjusting??
I Have Found That Decarbing Helps Some Of The Engines With This Complaint.
There is another tweek that can be done but you will need an Evinrude Dealer for that. They will also need to know a little more info about the system. If it does not stall when it is warm, then the tweek is not needed. If it does stall when you think it is warm, then have the engine temps checked before tweeking. The tweek is the last resort and in almost all cases it is not needed.
I will be more than happy to explain this info to your dealer, if they need it, but It is more complicated to type up and is not needed 99+ % of the time.
The model is e225fhlsr the serial #05064978. I need some help on what to do to fix this thing from cutting off when cold. Sparks plugs are QC12PEP at .028. It has about 250hrs.

Sure on the model #? Could it be xxxxse? Sometimes a little quicker shift helps mine. I have plans to do a couple fixes before spring, but that helps me sometimes.

Does this happen only when the motor is cold and then works fine when it is warmed up?
Does the CHECK ENGINE lite come on when this happens?

Yes it only cuts off when cold or unloading boat from trailer and going to dock to tie boat up. No it does not set a check engine light.
If it only does this when it is cold, then let it warm up a bit. If you have or ever get a profile print out for the engine or have it on a labtop see if the injector serial numbers, in the EMM, end in a (0). If they do, get back to me and I will explain what it means & what it is for.
I have had engines with a shift interupted stall that have been salt related & some that have been spark plug related & some that only needed a decarb. There is the tweek I mentioned above that can be done only when the above items have been satisfied.
Anyway if you have the (0) in the EMM let me know.
I took the lower pan off engine to see the shift switch.It looks good and i tested it with meter ok but i can not see what makes the switch move or push the top of the switch when shifing the gears can you explain how it works
I am running gas treatment in fuel right now.I do not know what injecters numbers are but will you know.

It is on a stand off and you need to pull it off. In the early days of the loopers the interupter switch would cut 1/2 the bank off of the motor to allow easier shifting and disable 1/2 the power pack cutting off 3 cylinders.
