Ok you Blazer Guys.....Need some input

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2007 202 with a Merc 250 XS. I currently own a Triton TR-21X. What do you think would be the advantages or disadvantages to making the swap.....Please I need to put some serious thought into this.....Thanks to any and all replies in advance.

It will be different. I think you will like it. The 250xs is a nice engine for that hull. You will have to learn to drive the boat on top end, but with a little seat tiime you will have it mastered. I think that boat will be close to 90 mph loaded to fish. If the 250 doesn't have the sportmaster lower try and trade for one. You will lose a little bit of room but it will fish as good as your current rig. It will get good fuel mileage too and will be less weight on your tow vehicle.

Re: Ok you Blazer Guys.....Need some input (Vyper296)

Advantages: faster, more fun to drive, and knowing that you own a boat that YOU can call the Plant and talk to owner of the company and the best customer service around.

Disadvantages: not as stable as your X boat, due to the Blazer having a narrower front deck, dealer network for warranty work if needed, less storage even though my wife has enough tackle in ours to open a bait shop.

Now with that out of the way, you will see that most of us Blazer owners are die-hard and loyal to Blazer. For a small company, we put on the best Owners Tourney and have some of the best Dealerships in our dealer network, for example Grammer Marine. Is the Blazer different from the Triton, you bet and I can find great things in both rigs, but for the money, the Blazer is the best. My advice is to take the Blazer for a ride and see what you think.

Patrick, if its a Merc XS then it will have the Sportmaster lower unit. You'll have ONE of the fastest boats in Region 7...

The 250 XS comes with either a silver painted torquemaster 1:75 (most common) or 1:62 or the optional unpainted sportmaster 1:75 or 1:62 . The newer Pro XS torquemasters with either ratios are painted black. MY 2004 250 XS 1:75 case with a 28 pitch prop on a 202 Blazer will just hit the 5850 rev limiter at 82.5 mph. The 2005 and newer 250XS and 250 PRO-XS would be better overall with a 27 pitch and wont hit the rev limiter until 6300 but they are not any faster . The 1:62 cases will use about 1-2 inch less pitch on the same boat and motor. I have used both sportmaster and torquemaster cases on mine and find the torquemaster the better choice especially with a non hydraulic plate like the Rapid Jack that they come with. I doubt that a Blazer 202 with a 250 XS will be capable of much more than 85 mph light regardless of gearcase style as I have tested a lot of props and have just seen 83 at best. The more realistic target speeds are 79 loaded and 83 light which is still flying. --- mike

Wow. I thought it would be faster than that. My buds 20xd/250xs combo will hit 89-91 with 2 aboard loaded to fish with a 29 hydromotive quad 4. I fiqured the 202 would be within 2 or 3 mph of the bullet

Re: Ok you Blazer Guys.....Need some input (mercury97)

A new 202 with the 250 XS and Sportmaster lower unit should run around 85 with the right set up and driver tourny loaded. My 202/250 HPDI will run 82 tourny loaded with 2 people all day long, and the Sportmaster is worth 2-3 mph over the HPDI lower unit. The newer Blazers with the rounded top cap are a little heavier than advertised.

Good call Canada Blazer, I thought that all of the XS engines came with the Sportmaster.

Re: Ok you Blazer Guys.....Need some input (Basshunter2006)

My brother has a 2004 Allison XB-21 with an 06 250 XS 1:62 Sportmaster with a 28 Hydromotive Quad 4-X OB that will go 87- 93 loaded depending on the water and wind and nerve . Light it would need more prop but is probably capable of 95 plus with the 250 XS . I have tried and am still trying to make my Blazer as fast but even though the Ally is a bit heavier it seems that he is at least 7- 10 mph faster; but I am still trying . --- mike

Re: Ok you Blazer Guys.....Need some input (GE Blazer)

I agree : those Allys are fast !!!! but I love my 2001 Blazer 202 and it does give me something to guage against as the next closest boats around my parts are; a Javelin 20 with a 225 H.O. and a Stratos Magnum 21 with a 225 H.O. both of which go about 73-76 loaded. There is a Stroker with a 225 P.M. that my brothers old XB-2003 Ally with 225 P.M. clocked at less than 80 that I can,t wait to run. --- mike

If a Stroker is running a 225 promax at less than 80 he is doing somthing waaaaay wrong! But, I have a Stroker with a 225 promax I would gladly run against you.
