Trim/tilt switches on 96 Faststrike

Have a 96 150 Faststrike on a 96 Basscat. Had the down trim activate on the boat all by itself, had trouble with the front step on switches before and thought this would be the problem again. Disconnected that switch and the problem was still there. My question is, I have switched the relays on the motor, and either way it sticks only in the down mode. I would get a new relay and try that if that could be the problem. If it is the switch on the side of the motor or on the handle, I would have to get someone else to look at that, Thanks in advance.

question : why get someone to change the switch on the motor? super easy to do disconnect the wires, pop out the switch and reconnect the same colors to the same colors. the shifter one is a little harder but still if I can do it most bears can do it. as for the relay I would change that first, also the front switch is not really a step on switch that is the best way to snap it off if it is a toggle type or if not a good way to push it in and break the holder. the front one is usually only used in case of an emergency or when you are puting the boat in your self back in and then hit the switch to lower the motor so you can start it easier.

I use the bow switch all the time when I'm fishing in shallow water. . Follow the harness to the motor and disconnect it, you'll know if it is in the boat or the motor switch. Pretty good bet it is in the external switch though.
