Tachomoter problem

I have a 1990 Evirude model no.VE150SLES and serial no. R08538340. I recently purchased it with a Stratos 285. On my second outing the tach started acting funny. At idle it's reads 1000rpm then when I throttle up it goes down to zero. Any suggestions would be great since I cannot find any help in my Seloc manual.

You may have a bad tach or a bad regulator rectifier. Check all the wires behind the tach, make sure they are tight.
