    coontail bed fishing???

if fishing ccontail bed does this wwed grow up to the surface then lay over and mat on top or does it just grow straight up and like grass? If it mats does it stop the growth of lily pads and other vegetation around them and is it open underneath so you can pitch to it an open water underneath??

coontail doesnt mat like hydrilla would....its thicker all the way through the bed of grass, unlike matted hydrilla, which creates a dome over the top...that being said...coontail will hold fish.....

UP here in the N.E. it doesn't mat over like milfoil, unless there is a big drop in the water all of sudden.

that's what i thought but a freind of mine today said that he thought it did and stop the lilypads from growing in an area where they use to before the coontail moved in

coontail beds can get thick enough to choke out other vegetation..just depends on the bottom/ water conditions..it doesnt evidently require as much light to flourish as say, hydrilla, which woiuld explain how it would be able to choke out pads.....
