    Florida vacation, any advice?

I'm planning a week long family vacation in the beginning to middle of Feb. I'm looking to rent a house for the week but having a hard time deciding which lake I want to go to. I'm pulling towards the big O but not stuck on it. Some of you guys that fish in FL quite a bit give me some advice. Where would you go at this time of year?

you say family...if you have kids are they gonna be happy at the Big O, or near Orlando? Good fishing near both, but way more to do around Orlando...No family with me??? Big O all the way!

FYI....Rooms around Orlando may be hard to come by or at least be very costly in mid Feb as thats Speedweeks for the Daytona 500. ....

Very good point. If you're bringing the family, go to Orlando, set them up in the parks for a few days, and go fish Toho. Going without the family, go to the Big O.

Going with family, 11 yr old son who will be fishing with me and 3 yr old son and wife. We aren't going to the parks though, been there done that for the last two years, wife nor I have any desire to go back this year. This is going to be more of a peace and quiet type of vacation. Trying to find a good rental house now on the O but a lot of the places I'm finding look pretty run down.

I second Ft. Myers Beach, less than 2 hours to Clewiston, and the BEACH is there for the family. Tons of shopping and restaurants in the area, plenty of fun for everyone There's also saltwater fishin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February: Excellent fishing for speckled trout, pompano, redfish, grouper, ladyfish, jack crevelle and sheepshead.

Try Camp Mack on the Kissimmee Chain. They have a motel, RV rental and cabin rental.

I was down at the big O last april, stayed in okechobee city, there really wasn't much there other than the lake. Not sure about the clewiston area. I think it would be tough to pull a week there unless you're fishing everyday.

Heaven for a fisherman! Party boat charter is about $60 per person, and worth every penny. Private charters available too, both inshore and offshore. Good pier fishing too for lots of different species. Lots of good swimming around for the kids as well, but might be a little cool in Feb. - last time I went was in Dec., you could swim, but boy was it chilly! Caught some lobster too by hand!

I live in the ft myers area and if it were me I would look into lake placid its about 1.5 hours to clewiston and 1 hour to okeechobee city there are several lakes in the placid / sebring area. its 1.5 hours to ft myers beach a hour to bass pro shops in ft myers. lake june has several houses for rent on it! lake placid water is low in that lake fishing is still good lake istokpoga has dark water and fish (they say I have a hard time on that lake I can find 2 every time out there) if I can help im or email me! enjoy florida!

Placid looks like a great idea, looks to be a lot around that area. I'll have to read up on that area more. Thanks.

When I go to Florida, I have to go salt water fishing and the best place I have been for that was Destin. If you decide to go there, IM me and I will recommend some good charters.

That sounds like good advise right there, and you got Lake Istokpoga right there.

Not sure what your looking for, but here is where we stay when we go to the Big "O". It is clean, close to a good ramp, canal access to the lake, and right on the edge of town. We pay cash with no taxes when we get there. If leave your boat in the canal there is a covered dock with power. If you trailer it back and forth to the lake there is a car port beside your cabin to park under with power. It's a good set up.
