    ETEC 250

i went to the FLW weigh in today at Old Hickory and saw 3 ETEC 250s on RangerZ21s. i asked one guy how he liked it and he said it was perfect on that heavy Z21. these were the first ones i have seen, anybody know when these motors will be released to the public?

    Re: ETEC 250 (javman225)

They came out in 2005. I love mine. I don't think I would call it the perfect match for the Z21 but I do love it.

The real question we all want answered is when will the 250HO E-tec be on the market. If it ever makes its way out it will be a pefect match for the Z21.

If you are thinking of getting one I would say go for it you will not be unhappy. I feel it is the best priced, best backed (7 year warranty), most fuel efficient 250 on the market 2 or 4 stroke. and with a lightning gearcase could be the fastest on a Z21. (IMO)

The 225HO is usually a better solution for a bass boat. The difference in the two is the gearcase.

I bought mine in March this year. It cranks and runs like a Singer Sewing Machine. I can't believe how it sips gas and when I need to run I can put her in the wind.

Just out of curiousity, how does the 250 Etec compare to the Merc 250XS Optimax? Or would the rumored 250 HO Etec be a closer comparison (if it ever comes out)?

    Re: ETEC 250 (Grant)

    Grant,

As far as I know BRP,unlike Mercury, does not have a racing division and does not make racing motors. I think as far as top end performance it would be hard to beat a factory racing motor (250xs or 250xb) with a factory motor designed for fuel economy and reliability (E-tec 250). It would be like comparing a Cadillac to a Corvette. Both are sweet cars but made for different markets. (JMO)

Please don't take me wrong I am just saying they are two different motors built and designed for different users. And they both GIT-R-DONE in their own way.

    Re: ETEC 250 (GaryL)

Grant, all I know is the E-tec 250 is strong and will push my boat 69 mph (Ranger 2005 Z-21 / 6 inch man JP / full of gas / gear / 2 guys each weigh 230 lbs/ cooler full of ice and ice cream, drinks, cake, cookies . Prop is the Raker II 26 inch that came with the boat.

I also have taken a ride in a Z-21 with a racing Merc of similar size engine. All will say is if you want to go fast put a Merc racing engine on the boat. It's bad to the bone and expensive .
My vote is 99% of the time you want realibility and efficient use of fuel. What can't you do at 69 mph fully loaded that you can do at 179 mph ?

I have a question. What is the difference in the gearcase between a E-tec 225 and 250??
