Is this really needed. 09 HPDI and was told I needed to decarb it and then ask another Mechanic and was told just run ringfree and change the plugs yearly.
Anyone have any knowledge in this area.

Ringfree will decarb the engine. If you haven't been using it, and you have enough hours to cause carbon, then you need to decarb and run ringfree in the future. If you've been using it all along, you most likely don't need to do anything.
Were you having issues with it? Why was that suggested on such a new motor?
