    150 HPDI Running Rough

I have a 150 HPDI that when it is first cranked in the morning runs very rough. It idles very poorly and when I try to plane out it will barely make it. When it gets on plane and I open the throttle it picks up but loses about 500 rpms off and on for about 5 minutes or until the engine warms up. After that it runs smoothly the rest of the day with absolutely no skipping or rough running. Any ideas what might be going on?

Re: 150 HPDI Running Rough (PRK)

I have the same motor, little over a year old, haven't had any issues and I wouldn't hazard to speculate... but if it were me I'd give Scott a call over in Selma
(Brech Marine;334-875-3484 ). My two cents. Hope you get your answer,regardless...

Sounds like a fouled plug. Have you checked your plugs, cleaned them, and regapped them?

The plugs were changed last week and all filters are clean. If it were an electrical problem would it cause this? Could a bad battery cause it?

Re: 150 HPDI Running Rough (PRK)

Since the first post I made on this issue with the 150 HPDI back on 7/8/11 I have not had much use of my boat. I took it to my local Yamaha dealer to get it checked out. Two weeks later it was ready and I picked it up. Everything was OK according to dealer and charged me $303.21. Work didn't allow me to use it for several weeks. Fished a tournament in August. It was worse than before. Carried it back to dealer. Two weeks later they called , it was ready. Said it was the gel seal between the crankcase and power head. They said it was a warranty issue and was covered by Yamaha. They said they carried it to the river and ran it. It ran good for about 10 miles and dropped 500-800 rpms. Then it picked back up and ran great after that. Picked it up Friday. Went to lake yesterday, it idled good for about 5 minutes. After that it skipped badly and didn't have power to get on plane. Took it back for 3rd time. Needless to say I'm very frustrated. Any ideas or suggestions on what to do next?

Re: 150 HPDI Running Rough (cwilt)

Took it back to dealer after got back from lake. They called Yamaha and went to work on the problem again. They replaced the main wiring harnesses and the fuel delivery system and had no luck. They ordered a new ecu on Monday. Called me a couple of times to keep me informed as to status. Got a call from dealer yesterday afternoon to meet them at the river for a trial run. After five months and I can only guess what the bill will be for Yamaha, but it runs like it did when it was new.
