WHats the diff? can I run the pro stuff in my Hammer?
The HPF Pro is a good lubricant, but the HPF XR is for Extended Run, it is the lubricant found in E-tec motors. The HPF Pro will be our replacement for the Ultra Hi Vis Lubricant. The HPF XR runs even cooler than the pro, so if you run on top, or with less water around the gearcase, this is a good choice in Bombardier motors. It meets the Hammer #s, but that is your choice. I do like the odor of the XR, it doesn't have the petroleum odor. You can tell the synthetics are there. The average person won't mind so much, but when you have to smell lube all day, it's nice.
Can I mix Ultra-HPF (2-3 oz.) with the HFP-XR to top off my case? 96' 150 FastStrike. Thanks It's gonna be nice to finally get on the water again tommorrow.![]()
If you are using the XR, no problem, it is the superior lube. If you top off with Ultra, I wouldn't recommend it. Why not just change out and use the XR, It provides superior protection?
That's what I did, put the Qt. of XR in and topped off with the Ultra I had left over from last year to fill the case with the extra oz. or 2 it takes. OK?![]()
Change out all the way next time. It's easier to remember what you did, and your color will be normal , easier to tell if anything is in the lube with one lube color.
Thanks Rudetech1 I will do that XR from now on. They were the same color though, green. Same yellow cap on bottles. The Pro my buddy used in his hammer was a brown color.(Gold cap)
Need to clarify on the HPF XR and the HPF PRO.
HPF XR is the factory fill gear lube for all the engines coming from the factory.
It is designed for extended run 300 hours of the E-TEC. It will hold 20-25% water in suspension even after mulitple freeze and thew cycles. It handles higher pressure for the timken and falex tests (for you gear oil guys) and it has less fluid friction so it runs cooler than the original Ultra HPF. It is green in color whereas ultra HPF was amber.
HPF PRO does everything the XR does and more. The application intent is higher performance outboards, commercial fleets and sterndrives - Applications that run really long distances at high speeds and high loads and lots of exhaust heat. It has even higher viscosity with less fluid friction so it runs 20% cooler than XR. It exceeds the falex test capability for even better extreme pressure handling. It is more orange in color.
HPF XR provides the best balance between cost and general all around lubrication for lower units.
Either one replaces Ultra HPF and Hi Vis.
HPF PRO is overkill in engines under 100 hp.
Welcome to the BBC Mead and Thanks for the information.![]()
