    Bent vmax hpdi prop shaft

I bent my prop shaft. I'd like to pull the shaft out and either replace it, or send it to someone to have it straightened. Does anyone make an aftermarket shaft for the HPDI? Where should I get a new shaft from, or should I have this shaft straightened? Where Would I send it to get straightened?

    Thanks

So a new shaft from Yamaha is the way to go.

Does anyone make an aftermarket shaft?

    Thanks

Check with this company and see if one of your local marine dealers has the tool. They can straighten a lot of bent shafts without disassembling the lower unit. (Don't ask how I know).

I bent a prop shaft on an older johnson motor i had...I took it to a local machine shop and they said they would try to straighten it..they said one of two things would happen...they would get it perfectly straight, or it would shatter...didnt matter to me since I needed a straight on no matter what...I told them to go for it and they called me that afternoon and said come get it, its fixed...they said they probably got it straighter than it was orginally...lol...only cost me $75 and never had another problem with it...you might find a machine shop nad give it a try...your not going to be out anything...

Nettles props here in Austin, TX has straightened literally hundreds over the years. I've had mine (225VMax) straightened twice by them. They straighten them without removing using a jig similar to the one above. I just drop the boat off and come back in a little later and it's done. They tell me that the shafts almost always bend in the area where the shaft necks down. This being outside the bearing carrier it straightens up nicely.

I'll bet that tool is really good on the bearings in the lower unit.

Probably easier on the bearings than what we hit to bend it in the first place. The bearings are a lot harder steel than the shaft. They apply the pressure a little at a time, spin and check it, and keep doing it until it is straight.

Our local dealer simply gets rebuilt prop shafts for $75.00 plus your core. Worked great when I needed one and not an issue since. Will do it again if i need another.
