Engine Reving Up/ Ideling High

I have a 2005 Yamaha VMax 200 3.1L Fuel Injected motor. Recently when I crank the motor it will rev up to 3000 rpm and idle there. I can gun the motor and it will eventually idle back down to about 1000. Even after the engine is warmed up, it will do this. Cranked it the other evening in the middle of the lake and could not get it under 1500 RPM. I don’t like to punch it into gear at that high of an idle. I have lifted up on the hot foot to make sure it was not sticking and that does not seem to be the issue. Any thought or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like your throttle cable for your hotfoot is going bad. Sounds to be sticking right now. I suggest getting it replaced.

Mine broke at WOT during the middle of blast off. Went to let off on the hot foot to make a turn and the engine just kept on going. Talk about a scary feeling.
