    yamaha service question

Ok guys heres a question for you. look forward to responses
I have a 94 Yamaha 130hp, have had it about a year and it runs better some days than others. I think I need to have it serviced just to be on the safe side. What is included in servicing? and How much can I expect to pay? Thanks for all your help.

    Re: yamaha service question (baseball2828)

I had a 92 Yamaha 130 (exact same engine). Not sure why it would run ok some days and different on other days. If you had a problem normally it would be consistent. Are you using Ringfree each fill up? If you have not already done this, I would run combustion chamber cleaner directly into the 2 carburetor throats feeding each cylinder while running at about 2500 RPM. (Follow the instructions on the can). When you go to “blow it out” run it on the lake. You can change the plugs as well and clean the silencer (If needed) with compressed air. I used Ringfree every tank as well as a fuel conditioner for about 16 years until I sold it. My carburetors never needed adjusted and ran like a top. Not sure what kind of shape your fuel system/carbs are in without any additional info. I also do not know what “not running well on some days” means. If this means erratic running and fluctuating RPMS or loss of power many things could be wrong and more info is needed. General maintenance would be the combustion cleaner, LU Oil, Plugs, grease all fittings and check for leaks, as well as consistent use of Ringfree.

You have one bullet proof engine if well cared for. IMO the carb engines from Yamaha are some of the best outboards ever made. One thing I miss over my HPDI is the simplicity of the carb engine.

    Re: yamaha service question (Reata210)

Thanks Reata. Been out of town a few days. It was just running a little sluggish would sputter when in gear at low thrust, sluggish when coming out of the hole but once up and going she would push 50+ and RPM's were good. I have been running seafoam about 1/2 can per tank but maybe I need to up it. Thinking about it when I got it last year it did a similar thing and I started runnig seafoam and it started running better. Maybe I have been skimping on the seafoam. Im going to put another tank of gas in and seafoam and hope she comes back to life. Thanks for the input
