A bunch of us have used the original one (the mother to the Yamaha one) for a couple years now. It works great and is easy to stow.

But isn't all the weight still on the transom, and not supported by the trailer?

Not to start that argument, I like my transom saver. JMO.

Why would Yamaha recommend it if it would hurt something?

Yeah, but are they offering it as supplemental to a transom saver, or instead of? It still leaves your transom holding a big, heavy motor. And I know the argument of "well that's what a transom is supposed to do..." True, but IMO the forces on the water and on the trailer are entirely different.

Your transom is still holding a big heavy motor when you use a trailer support.

True dat. But the trailer support makes your transom a (relatively) static support, instead of a fulcrum. I dunno, I guess I like seeing my motor supported and immobilized instead of watching my transom take the load from every angle. JMO, but I think I'll stick with my transom saver.

I prefer the my wedge over the transom saver. I think all the impact of the trailer is transferred to the motor and than puts more stress on the transom. Could be even worse if you don't strap the boat down.

Re: new yamaha trailering support (quadfreak327)

A local tech told me to stick with the transom saver as the wedge can't be tightened down enough.

I think it just boils down to personal preference and there's good and bad points about using each method.

I drive on a lot of bumpy roads so i choose to stick with the transom saver as when i was using the wedge a buddy driving behind me said my motor was bouncing around a lot... perhaps i just didn't crank it down tight enough that time....

Do they make them for a 75hp 4-stroke?
