What is the max RPM I can run on a 2008 250 HPDI? I have already blowed it up once but it was covered by warrenty and I never went above 5850. Was that to much?

If its the 08, Series 2 HPDI, book says the max RPM range is 5000- 6000.

No, I think they actually cut off at 6250. Try to keep it right around 6k at most...
rev-limiter is 6150. Hitting the limiter, or even running high rpm will not cause an engine to blow up.
Was told by Yamaha and a gentlemen at Ranger that all model HPDIÂs 225 hp + with a MFG date on or after Jan 07 are Series 2 in disguise. The ECM mapping changes were made, as well piston and ring changes. This is pretty common for companies to do this, they make the changes and role them out before officially announcing. The Series2 was announced early summer of 07.
To answer your question there is not much of a difference between the Series2 and the original. Main difference is the ECM mapping changes, oil pump update (all motors) got this through a TSB, piston changes. All else is the same.
All HPDI models 2006 to current have a MAX RPM of 6000. All manuls state 5000-6000.
Models 2005 and before have a Max RPM of 4500-5500 per owners manual.
