06 250 HPDI trim sensor cam (clamp) broke!!!???

Has anybody had that happen and is it as hard to change as it looks?? It appears that the hyd. steering has to come off as well as the upper clamp bolt, lots of work for a clamp that broke, but I need my trim indicator!

Should be a warranty issue I would assume?

Cost about $2.00 at a yamaha dealer and you just unscrew it and slide a new one over the steering and put in the screw. You need to trim down all the way and tighten it up where your gauge reads full neg trim... It's easy.

I just replaced mine. It is a bit stiff but no problem getting it around the tube. Better buy 2, becasue you will need anotehr soon.

You would think, someone would come up with a small metal one by now given the % that seem to break.

Re: 06 250 HPDI trim sensor cam (21XDC)

Is this part called the "trim gage sender clamp" (64E-43139-02-00), as referred to in the Yamaha parts list?

Re: 06 250 HPDI trim sensor cam (21XDC)

You are right. I guess we need to be thankful it is not a critical part and that it is cheap.

I am on my 3rd one. in 3 years. For this last one, I put some double sided sticky tape under it and did not clamp it down as hard and it has lasted the longest so far.

    We will see.

I just adjusted mine saturday, it was so far out, it didn't even touch the sending unit, so trimmed full down, adjusted to full down on the gauge and tightened 'er up... Hope it lasts a season at least...

mine has a little nipple on the inside that I assumed went into a small hole when tightened down for calibration...you can see it in the pic below:

Where is the sensor located on the motor? Have a 06 Campion with 250Hpdi. Dealer forgot to hook up trim sensor and I want to trace the wiring from the sensor to indicator. I have a 3 wire guage, 12v, gnd, and sensor. I took off the engine cover and checked where the engine swivels but was unable to see sensor.

    Thanx

    Re: (ziggy145)

It's actually located in front of the engine on a bar behind the hydraulic steering cylinder.

Yamaha actually has come out with a new one that is stainless steel to replace the old one. About $10 I think.....way better than the old plastic one.

Mine broke a month or so too, the dealer replaced it with the metal one others have mentioned.

    Re: (Skeeter Jay)

what's the part # for the metal one. I just bought 2 plastic ones because mine
also broke. I asked the Yamaha dealer up here and he said they didn't have the metal ones listed in their manual if it exists.

Can someone tell me where I could get one. Thanks

I'll look for the part number of the metal replacement I installed. I find the metal one harder to adjust now though..
