Lower Unit Leak

Have a 30 hp yamaha that's got a slight leak around the oring between the bearing carrier and the housing. The O ring looks good, so I'm not sure why it's leaking. Is there some kind of sealant that you can use around this Oring to seal any defects? Something like permatex, etc?

s it really dark, black, black oil? If so it's probably unburnt oil in the gas, and not a shaft seal leak, seen it hapen quite a few times

No, it's LU lube (golden, unburnt). It's not the propshaft seals either - it's the o ring seal on the outside of the bearing carrier that seals the carrier to the gearcase housing. I'm not sure if the housing has some pitting or a slight warp that's letting oil seep past the o ring.

I'm going to change out the o ring, but since this one looks fine I'm not confident it will help. I'm just wondering if it doesn't stop the leak, is there some kind of sealant that I can use to help fill any gaps.

Sorry man, wish I could be some help, but I'm thinking there may be a bigger issue if the seal is still leaking after a new one. Bent prop shaft? worn bearings?
