    No Reverse

I still have forward but no reverse. I checked the linkage under the cowling and everything looks O.K. It makes a clicking sound when I put it in rev. You can put it in gear (rev.) and turn prop by hand and it clicks. I talked with the mech. and he said it sounded like a rev. clutch. Does this sound right. I drained the lower unit oil and it looked new with no shavings on the magnet. He said it would be fine to run in forward. I have a BFL sat...Thanks

This may sound improbable but check for a loose bolt or nut caught up in your linkage.I could not get mine into reverse, tired everything I could think of,extending linkage, shorting linkage,LU gears, etc. All along it was an obstruction(a free roaming nut) keeping the linkage from working properly.Go figure.

I'd say disconnect the shift linkage from the motor end and make sure it is definitely getting into the reverse detent as it should. With the cable end off the shift link pin move the shift linkage into reverse by hand and see how it does. May just need a shift cable adjustment. To adjust the shift cable leave the end off the linkage pin and make sure both the console shifter and the motor linkage are in exact neutral, adjust the cable end so that it just drops over the shift link pin with no interference. Then resecure it to the pin. Good luck.

    Re: No Reverse (Hamfisted)

when your lower unit is fully in gear (forward or reverse) you can turn the prop by hand in one direction and get the clicking noise but you should not be able to turn it in the other direction (without turning the motor).

    Re: No Reverse (lakefolk)

In reverse it will click when you turn it in either direction. I took it to the dealer today . They are going to tear it down and let me know. The good thing is it is still under warranty.
