Finally got out, got new problem now.

Hey all, I finally got her back in the water.

Put the Merc tempest prop on. Need to work on plugs for hole shot. boat ran full load at 50mph gps just like standard Suzuki prop. No difference. It only ran once I didn't look at rpms or indash speedo.

Started motor back up. Started quick, started fine. Idled rough. Died as soon as I put it into gear. Repeated. Raised Idle slightly. Repeated. It sounds like its not getting gas to keep it going when you put it in gear.

Any Ideas? Had it winterized and all filters changed.

Make sure your primer bulb is hard when engine is running. Next I would Look into cleaning the carbs. Suzuki's are notorious for this problem.

Jon, Glad to see you back on the boards. Sorry to hear about your problems. Tex is right about the carb cleaning. When your trying to get going, sometimes you have to give the choke a shot to get more fuel into the carbs. The 150's are bad for that. The 200's are better for idle but toast cylinders easier. Sorry to say I've had lots of experience with that.
What hole setting is your motor mounted in. Also we will need some more base line information to get your prop working properly. Hang in there.

You guys have been so helpful. Motor is mounted in the hole closest to the transom. Not quite sure choke worked. When I had it out Saturday the motor was idling, I pushed the key in and it didnt do anything. I have to get set of ear muffs so I can try this stuff at my house. I live too far away from a lake I can lauch a boat in. I'll keep you posted. If I dont get the ear muffs I might not get the boat back in the water for testing till second week of may. bummer... I hope all of your rigs are running good!

etec - what kind of baseline info are you looking for?

    Jon,

Once you get the motor running normal, than you need to post the speed,
RPMs and height the center of the prop shaft is from the pad (bottom of the boat.) I think you will need to move the motor up to the second or third hole, but lets wait and get the motor working first...Good luck, keep us posted..

55!!!!!!! She was screaming today!!! Problem is fuel bulb. Its not staying hard. I need to put a viagara in the line or change the bulb. After I made sure the motor had enough fuel I was able to run all day. Before I started each time I had to pump the bulb and even if I just let it idle for a while I had to go back and pump it up.

speed reached 55mph gps @ 5400RPM. Tach was not working first few times I was running. Id say I got from 0-47 in about 8-10 sec. I was impressed! I will get the pad height later tonight When I get back down to the boat. Had to run after my trip today.

Sounds like your getting real close to getting every thing working. At 5400 rpms your really close to where you want to be. You might try going up one
hole and see what you get with the RPM's. You need to be around 5500-5600. Also do you have a water pressure guage? Keep us posted..

Just got back from the NJ 6-man on Kerr. It was nice to be on the water for 5 days. Here are my numbers...

55MPH Top speed (Chinewalks at that speed)
    5400 RPM WOT
5in below pad. (very bottom of hull to center of prop shaft.
24P Tempest plus - no dings, yet =)
    Skeg is a bit rough

I'm going to bring this over to set ups by todd and get some input from those guys too.

I see chasbass is having a similar problem with fuel bulb staying hard and stalling on idle like me. hopefully we can figure this out.

Re: Finally got out, got new problem now. (bassdevils)

Had her out on Saturday, after speaking with my mechanic he informed me I've been starting the motor "wrong" for the past year. I was typically pumping the bulb, lifting the lever, then cranking the key. (previous owner told me to start it that way)

My mechanic told me to start the motor this way, pump the bulb, turn the key (to power on), hold the choke for 5-6 seconds then crank the key.

The motor started right up every single time, and I never had to go back to pump the fuel bulb at all for the rest of the day. She ran strong and true all day, until the water sensor broke! haha
