Reply Brand new Opti 225
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First day out with my brand new Opti 225. It ran great and I am a happy fisherman. (Previous Ficht owner).
Now to my problem. As soon as I started the 225 and started trimming it up on my way out the battery warning beeper on my smart guages came on. Soon the main starting battery went dead so I swapped out that one with one of the trolling batteries and it started drawing it down rapidly. I assumed it was probably not charging properly and the smart gauges showed the the alt was only putting out max. 11.4 volts.
Any suggestions??
Thanks allot in advance. First time visitor.

Looks like the alternator isn't working. Possible causes I can think of to check:
1) The belt that drives the alternator may be either slipping or broken - easy inspection;
2) With water muffs (or on the lake), if the motor dies right after you disconnect the battery cable, then stop right here and turn it in for warranty service - the alternator may be shot;
3) If the motor continues to run without battery, I'll be damned. :-D

I found the charging problem to be a blown inline fuse link. Everything is working perfect.
Thanks for your help.

Find out & repair why the fuse blew or you will be stranded when you least expect it. Fuses don't just pop, a problem makes them fail.

I had the boat out twice since I replaced the fuseable link and it is charging perfect and no blown fuseable links. I think it got blown when the boat was pre-rigged.
Thanks again guys for suggestions.
