150 ProXS - SmartCraft Gauge Question

I have a SmartCraft gauge that provides multiple functions but not trim (see picture). I know I have to add some kind of sender (sensor?) for it to work. Since the analogue Ranger gauge is just about worthless, I want to add whatever I have to so the trim function works too.

What do I need and how much does it cost? CAUTION: I am mechanically a glutz so is this something I need to make an appointment with the dealer?

Re: 150 ProXS - SmartCraft Gauge Question (Jake Grey)

Jake for my Z521 it was a simple plug & play process. My dealer ordered a Mercury (VDO) digital gauge that looked like the original. Installing the digital sender was simple, two screws & 3 wires. The tech installed the gauge (the gauge wiring harness already had the digital plug in place.) and plugged it in . Your dealer should be able to tell you if your boat was rigged with a compatible harness. My boat came with the Merc Monitor and yours may be different. I am sure Don can provide you with the proper parts.

    Jake:

You'd need a digital trim sender. Relatively simple install (you'll need to remove the Starboard side lower cowling to fish the wires up into the cowling).... and once installed, you calibrate the trim sender FROM YOUR SYSTEM MONITOR.

After installed- you could also add a System Link Trim Gauge (which would drive from the Smartcraft System).

We'd be happy to sell you the sender.... drop an email to our parts department.

We will be closed the remainder of this week... but could set you up next Monday.

Don, thanks for the reply. If I hear you correct this is a plug and play type thing...no wires to run from the motor to the dash? Would you happen to have pictures of the install or where it goes? I'm tempted to try this if the risk of screwing something up is relatively minor.

Jake the digital sending unit replaces the analog trim sender and is a 15 minuet install. With the sender installed you will have digital trim on the SmartCraft gauge, it will need to be calibrated. Calibrating is covered in your SmartCraft booklet and just takes a couple of minuets. replacing the gauge with a digital is also Probably a plug & play. Your dealer can tell you if the harness for your SmartCraft already has a connector for a digital gauge. It took Ten minuets to have the gauge installed & hooked up in my 2010.

    Jake:

Your engine is already wired for the digital trim sender.

Simple to install the sender (remove the analog sender, replace it with the new digital sender, and plug in the three color-coded wires).

Then simply calibrate the sender from your System Montior as per the instructions in your Smartcraft Operator's Manual.
