If a motor has 250 hours it means the motor is working like its susposed to and chances are it will continue to run without problems. If you get a new powerhead it is like a new motor. The question is did the problem that caused the failed powerhead get resloved. You won't know if the problem was resolved until you put some hours on the new powerhead. I would say once you reach 100 hours on the new powerhead without any problems you should be safe to say the problem was fixed.
When I got a new powerhead on my 01 opti it was definatly more powerful out of the hole but the top end speed was the same. I had 200 hrs on the original powerhead that developed a oil leak from a cracked block. I put an additinal 140 hours on the new powerhead which is still running strong for the current owner.

Keep in mind... a new powerhead is just that. It leaves the rest of the engine (electronics, fuel system, ignition system, midsection, gearcase, etc) with the same number of hours on them.
In general- Engine Hours are RELATIVE. They're not nearly as important as is "How the engine was TREATED, SERVICED, and OPERATED <u>DURING THOSE HOURS</u>.
