    TR 186 Advice

Bought a second hand 2006 TR 186 Limited Edition, 81 Total hours on the 150 Optimax Engine. Boat is in excellent condition.

Had it out a couple times, I have noticed the Chine walk is REALLY bad at close to WOT, I am aware that I will eventually learn to help with the Chine walk the more I learn to drive the boat, but I wanted to make sure my current setup was not adding to the chine walk.

Prop is a 25 Tempest, No jack Plate installed, Motor is mounted in the Middle Mounting holes.

Any thoughts on a better setup for my boat?

What kind of rpm's can you turn that 25" prop. It might be a little tall for your boat. Most tr-186's are happiest with a 23" Tempest+. Typical setup is a 6" jackplate and a 23" Tempest+. Chine walk is usually manageable with this setup.

The motor is too low. To reduce/eliminate the chine walk, add a 6" plate and start raising the motor. A 23p Tempest is a good all around prop for this boat. The prop is not affecting the handling as far as walk. It's 100% to do with the motor height.

I agree with the prop, seems a Little "much" for my engine, about 5100rpm's is about maxed out with it.

Would moving the engine up a hole be ANY help at all?

I'm running a 4 blade 24 trophy plus. It walked bad at 57 mph. Had the prop balanced and cleaned up which eliminated all walking. Merc. 150 xr6 6" jackplate and top speed is 64. The difference really surprised me.

no 3 bolt hole on that Motor and a 23 tempess plus.learn to drive it and save your $.Make sure your steering is tight.make sure your boat weight is distributed right through out the boat.
    Good Luck

Looks like the first thing I will try is a prop change to a 23 Tempest, as that seems to be the prop of choice by most for the TR 186. Without a jackplate and running a 23 Tempest, what motor height is recomended?

About 2 1/2 to 3 inches below the pad.

Leveled pad, leveled motor and then took my measurement, looks as if the middle mounting hole puts the centerline of prop shaft at approx 3.75 below pad. Seems low compared to what I am being told by several members on here.

Third hole with a 23 Tempest. A lot of folks run a 6" jackplate with a 23 Tempest also.
