Fishing partner of mine has a 08 Triton with 225 Opti Max Pro. Saturday morning he let the motor temp come up before taking off. Approx. .5 mile from landing the motor shut down. Motor would idle but would not run. Found pully bolts broke. Any idea what would cause this.
Check and I bet you will find the compressor or the idler pully is frozen or hard to turn. Bearings went bad. Don will be along with some more info. on this problem.
Could be a compressor problem, tensioner problem, badly worn belt, or simply that the bolts worked loose.
Recommend the compressor, belt, and all belt related components be carefully inspected.
If all are OK.... replace bolts with OEM Mercury/Quicksilver fastners- and utilize RED LOCTITE when installing.
IF the engine is under warranty..... get it in to the dealer. Under most circumstances, this would be something that should be addressed as a potential warranty claim.

i had all the bolts break while running and thaught i blew the motor. The shop i use said he has seen it a few times. He was able to fix it right then and back on the water i went
