Staying in reverse when in neutral

I have a '95 115 Intruder that has started to not come out of reverse even when you put the throttle in neutral. It sounds like it does, but apparently the prop keeps turning. You don't realize it until the boat starts slowing backing up. Almost got me in a bad situation. Anyway, you have to bump the throttle forward and then back to neutral to get it out of reverse. What should I look at adjusting first? The throttle itself or the cables at the engine? Thanks for any help.

Re: Staying in reverse when in neutral (R70)

Sounds like the shift cable needs to be adjusted.

This is not easy to do as its hard to get to the cable without removing the motor pan, if this is something you can handle then go for it, if not, see your dealer.
