    '01 225 HP Opti Alarms

3 beeps on the alarm. Did get a constant alarm until I put more oil in the reservoir as it was a bit low, but not out by any means - probably had an inch in the bottom of the main reservoir. No guardian mode at any time. Seems to persist if running on a bit rougher water. When things are smooth it does not alarm. What's the guess?

Constant alarm is Over heat alarm, not oil. Oil is sensed by a sensor in the little oil tank on the motor, not the big tank on your boat. Oil alarm is 4 beeps every 2 minutes and water in fuel filter is 4 beeps every 2 minutes. Check your little oil tank on the motor and make sure it is full to the top then check your fuel filter for water in the fuel. Then how long has it been sense you have put a new impeller in your lower unit???

So both oil and water in fuel filter are 4 beeps? I could swear this was 3 beeps, but it could have been 4. Impeller was changed last year (spring). I was told by a mechanic that I'd get the oil alarm whether it was the oil tank inside the cowling or on the main supply tank in the back of the boat....no? If it was oil in either case, would it not have gone into guardian? And if it was overheating, why would it alarm after it had been shut down for a long period of time fishing and then as soon as I punched it to get up on plane it would always alarm right away. Hopefully the codes will tell the mechanic the deal.

The ENGINE MOUNTED oil tank should ALWAYS be FULL TO THE BRIM... with ABSOLUTELY NO AIR PRESENT.

If the oil level drops SLIGHTLY, a low oil warning will sound (intermittent beeps, usually with a 2 minute pause between them). The same horn warning can also indicate water in fuel.

If the oil level drops to a CRITICALLY LOW state, or enough time has passed with the oil level low at a specific RPM, a CONSTANT alarm can sound (indicating a CRITICAL FAULT CONDITION).

You'll need to determine the CAUSE of the low oil level in the engine mounted tank, and PROPERLY BLEED this tank of any air that may be trapped in the lines and/or tank.

Here's a post with pointers on properly bleeding the system:

I would recommend STRONGLY that you have the engine connected to the Computer Diagnostic System to read the "Freeze Frame (FAULT) History". REQUEST A PRINTOUT for future reference.

The printout of the fault history will help to verify the precise cause of each alarm.

It was the main oil reservoir sensor. The one in the tank you fill, nothing wrong at the point of the one inside the cowling.

Just an interesting case.... although I've seen one or two of these "remote tank" sensors fail, we really don't hear many warning horn scenarios from them.
