    Setup Question

I have a 1997 20XRD with 225 promax. Here is the problem. It is very slow out of the hole and I can only get it to turn about 5300-5400 RPM's and 72 is the fastest I have seen out of it. I am running a 27 Turbo TXP 3 blade with the PVS plugs with medium plugs. I know you can change the plugs to get a better hole shot but I dont think they are gonna help the RPM's or topend. I was just gonna see if anybody had any advise on what the problem might be. I am guessing its the prop! But I dont know a whole lot about props or motors. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,Brandon

    Re: Setup Question (BULLET21)

We need a little more info, like gear ratio, water pressure, jackplate height. I'm thinking you're probably gonna need to raise your motor. As far as the holeshot being bad, I would pull one plug completely out, then another until it jumps outta the hole.

You should be runnin in the low to mid 80's, and should be turning alot more RPMs than you are with that 27.

I think it is 1.75 gears. It is a CLE gearcase. Water pressure is around 10psi. Im not exactly sure on the engine height the guy that put it on said he had it about as high as you would want it with the CLE! I thought about trying a 25 or 26 pitch prop.

    Re: Setup Question (BULLET21)

Personally, I'd either do one of two things, send the CLE to Titus and have him cut the entire cone off and redo it, or sell it and find you a Sportmaster.

Being a 225 Promax, it more than likely has 1.87 gears, it could have 1.76 gears, if it in fact does, your prop is way too big and the gear ratio is killing you. You have too much prop if you can't get the motor up any higher, and with 10 lbs pf water, I wouldn't come up any more.

Have you done a compression test or leak down test on the motor. Not calling you a liar, but something sounds wrong with those numbers.

    Re: Setup Question (20xdBake)

Well I solved the problem. For one it had the wrong spark plugs and I tried a 26 pitch prop and its still not exactly right but it did jump up to 5900 RPM's. So now I am in search for a 25 pitch 4 blade. I would like to trade the TXP for one if anybody is interested let me know. Thanks for all the help I appreciate it!
