    225 opti and pro xs

I need to know what the differences are between an '06 225 optimax and '06 225 pro xs. Are the powerheads, rev limiters, lower units, fuel delivery, porting, power, bottom end - topend poerformance. what are the differences?

Trying to help my dad buy a new boat.
    Thanks in advance!

Re: 225 opti and pro xs (BEEZER)

    SPECIFICALLY comparing a 2006 225 Optimax to a 2006 225 ProXS, the differences include:

    -Engine Mounts
    -Gearcase
    -Cylinder Porting
    -Cylinder Heads
    -Carbon Fiber Reeds in ProXS
    -Different Air Compressor
    -Direct Injectors
-Fuel Rails and Air/Fuel Differential Pressures
    -PCM Calibration
    -Spark Plugs

There are other subtle differences.... but these are the "major" ones. VERY different engines (although they "appear" nearly identical externally).

The ProXS will walk-off and leave the 225, putting out an average of 247hp at the Heavy-Duty Torquemaster Propshaft.

What is the rev limiter set at on a 2007 225 pro xs? Is the black lower unit actually a torquemaster? If so, will it void my warranty to plug some of the side holes on the wate intake? What do you think about adding a bob's nosecone to improve engine height and speed? (motor is mounted on a 20xd) I can't afford a sportmaster and I bought the boat used.

Thanks Don! I knew there were differences but not that many. Its always nice to have people to lean on for information. The industry an technology changes so quickly it's hard to keep up. My dad had a local dealer tell him it was just a difference in the lower unit and i knew that wasn't the whole story. Your efforts and time spent on hear will not go forgotten. thanks again.

Recommended propping RPM is 5500-6000 RPM's. Rev limiter varies by calibration (and we don't use "year models" with Mercury Engines). More than likely, your engine has a 6270-6300 limiter.

If your "black" lower unit has the drain/fill screw behind the prop, a 1-1/4" (Fat) Propshaft, AND has a cast-in torque tab on the right or starboard side of the skeg, it's a TORQUEMASTER.

In regards to modifying the gearcase.... you're on your own there. I would recommend considering the Sportmaster as a viable alternative for your rig.
